Jesse Grossi – Moments of Fire (2021)

For approximately 18 months, Jesse Grossi has kept writers at The Other Side Reviews on our toes featuring regularly in our posts. From ‘Ride With You’ (read our review here) to ‘Grow Up’ (read our review here), the US-based singer-songwriter has tantalised both our and our readers’ ears. Building a loyal following with each single, Grossi has an international presence spanning several continents; however, he continues to retain individuality with each song being completely unique. One of the latest additions to his well-received discography is ‘Moments of Fire’.

Following his hard-hitting rock track ‘Sorry’, ‘Moments of Fire’ nods to the sounds of pop-rock/pop-punk artists like Rancid and Sublime. Demonstrating his talent as a multi-instrumentalist with dynamic guitars and pounding drums, ‘Moments of Fire’ has an upbeat and jovial vibe to it. The thing is while I appreciate the well-placed dips and crescendos into catchy riffs and choruses, Grossi highlights his innovativeness in the lyricism. Juxtaposing the bright, optimistic melody with slightly melancholic conceptualism, there is an intriguing obscurity to the track.

Jesse Grossi shares that “ ’Moments of Fire’ was inspired by my lack of commitment in my relationships as well as my willingness to cheat, live and deceive” – upsetting issues to be sure. Yet, while there is a reflective sincerity in the insightful tune, there is also a sense of empowerment and self-acceptance as Grossi comes to grips that “…maybe I’m better off alone.” A hard thing to admit when we live in a society focused on relationships, but this self-discovery helps Grossi and his listeners to accept themselves whatever their character.

Collaborating with producer Andres Ferias, ‘Moments of Fire’ was recorded and produced at Dino Latino Studios and Ferias Studios. Sophisticated but retaining an innocent cheekiness, Jesse Grossi holds up his hands and says “well, this is who I am, take it or leave it” in the new single. Infectious and intoxicating, ‘Moments of Fire’ is just another Grossi song that will stick in my brain for the next week or more.
