Jesse Brady – Transformations (2021)
Jesse Brady is bringing a lot of things together for her debut single ‘Transformations’. Fundamentally a single about taking everything one step at a time, it is covered in feelings of hope and change. There are also some remote-control cars thrown in for good measure. With a sense of inevitability woven into the music, she helps you navigate the difficult times in life.
Brady has been using music as an outlet for emotions and random thoughts most of her life. Over the years, the therapy of music has turned into something more and combined with her studies in Songwriting and Audio Engineering at Belmont University. She is now showcasing that she really is the whole package with her debut single and the accompanying music video.
‘Transformations’ uses a deep bass to pull you into the track. The melody has a depth to it that you can fall into that seems to be endless. That bass line gets some shuffling beats to have you shimmying to the groove of the music. There is a really addictive feeling to the music that hooks you and will not let go. The gentle swell on the chorus adds a different type of depth to the music like a shimmering river of lights that you slip through. The paced movement of the music has your head moving before easing you into the twinkling tones of the verses.
Brady’s vocals are a light touch that dances across the melody. The humming vocals below her voice fuse with the melody to create an interesting mixture of music and Acappella tones. They also give a lift to her voice on the chorus. There are a few swings to the vocal performance that takes you through the emotions of the track. You are pulled up into the sky only to dance back down to the river of bright sound. The lyrics are easy to relate to as they clearly paint a picture of the movement of time that always seems inevitable.
The music video uses an animated style that is a lot of fun to watch. Throughout the video, you see an animated Brady singing against an ever-changing backdrop. The changing colours match the emotions of the music while the clocks add to the cuckoo style vocals. Later in the track, the animation gives way slightly so you see Brady in full-colour glory. The animations in the background bring the story of the track to visual life while adding a light sense of abstraction to everything.
Jesse Brady takes you on a journey of inevitable change through the blended tones of ‘Transformations’. As a debut single, it is amazing as it showcases her vocals abilities, fusion soundscapes and addictive songwriting skills. The music hooks you only for her vocals to pull you up on the swelling air of harmonisations.
