Jess Stewart – Crush (2024)

As I enter my forties, I find myself using the expression “back in my day” more often day by day. I allude to decades of calmer, easier and more logical experiences, like when mobile phones were new and didn’t control our lives. Unfortunately, the day of the Nokia 3310 has passed and smartphones swirl about me in a haze of digital glory. Finding the world as we know it slightly scary, I need a guide to navigate the ins and outs of 2024. Clasping my hand and sharing a peek into the life and love of the modern-day world, singer-songwriter Jess Stewart explores the dangerous cliffs, tumultuous waves, and soothing springs of a Gen-Z reality.

Inspired by the likes of Ariana Grande and Mimi Webb, Jess Stewart offers a strong pop sound in her melodies; however, a silky soulfulness underlies the upbeat, toe-tapping vibe. Following her well-received single ‘Prince Charming (Went To Hell)’, Stewart ignites her passionate music with a powerful pop sound in ‘Crush’. Interestingly, while the bold beats pulsate beneath a blend of electronic pop, a contrary sassiness floods her sensual vocals. Bouncing tender sincerity off husky decadence, Stewart harmonically entwines sophisticated maturity with naïve innocence.

While the UK-based artist might win you over with their big eyes and beautiful smile, a rebel lurks beneath the surface. As with ‘Prince Charming (Went To Hell)’, Stewart traverses modern-day romance clipping away the light fluff from brutal honesty. In its bold composition, ‘Crush’ tackles the complex uncertainties and insecurity of new relationships with angsty rage filtering across angelic vocals. Stewart explains:

“’Crush’ takes on the uncertainty of new relationships… highlighting the emotional rollercoaster between being wanted and taken for granted. ‘Crush’ expresses the desire to remain in that exciting early stage of a relationship with the feelings of butterflies and anticipation…”

With only four singles beneath her belt including the formidable ‘Crush’, Jess Stewart is tearing across the pop music scene with empowering ferocity wrapped in a charming exterior. I said it in my review of ‘Prince Charming (Went To Hell)’, and I’ll say it again – I am certain Jess Stewart will be the talk of the town very soon.
