Jess Irvine – Electricity (2023)

With the honesty and intimacy of Joni Mitchell wrapped in the obscurity of Joan Baez, singer-songwriter Jess Irvine adds a nostalgic flair to her folk-pop music. Despite only beginning to release music as a solo pursuit in 2022 (at least, according to Spotify), Irvine is no stranger to the music scene. Performing with The Counterfeit Umbrellas and The Lighthearts, the Australian songstress has a confident and captivating stage presence – something that can be heard in her recorded material. The latest addition to her repertoire is the single ‘Electricity’.

Following her well-received singles ‘New Moon’ and ‘Wild Wild Me’, Jess Irvine adopts a more upbeat tone in ‘Electricity’. While the softness of her folk-pop sound persists, a leaning toward modern-day pop is evident. Soft and soothing, ‘Electricity’ is easy to listen to and perfect as background music on those long road trips; however, just as it is sophisticated and elegant, there appears to be something sparkling and indulgent in Irvine’s vocals. A spark of electricity lurks in the whimsical haze.

Recorded and produced with music industry professionals Ben Kling and Mike Dwyer, ‘Electricity’ is intoxicating with steady drums, brooding guitars and an overall acoustic quality to touch our hearts. Alongside the powerful production, Irvine’s poetic lyricism adds a tender, honest and genuine sensation to ‘Electricity’.

“I love dancing in the world of cinematic, folk-pop music. Writing and sharing songs that are empowering and full of heart and soul. I like to think of my songs as ‘mantras for the modern-day dreamer’” – Jess Irvine

Sincere, sensitive and sentimental, Jess Irvine captures our hearts with her new single ‘Electricity’. Based on this song, it is easy to see why she is a four-time semi-finalist and two-time grand-finalist in the Listen Up Music Songwriting Competition. I can’t wait for more from this talented individual.
