Jerichos – Honeybee (2024)
Finding calm in chaos, freedom from restriction, and chilled-out independence in a daily rush, singer-songwriter Jerichos stares tragedy in the face as a beacon of light. The UK-based Jerichos turned our head earlier this year with the track ‘If You Want It Now’ – his indie-pop tribute to carefree days – but he was already winning hearts internationally by the time we turned up. Today, we take a gander at his latest single ‘Honeybee’.
Following his single ‘Dirty Horse’ – a musical release from the devastating entrapment of restrictive reality – ‘Honeybee’ tackles the excitement of new horizons. People relocate for various reasons from a new job to a new love, the one common thread is the complex emotions felt when moving. I enjoy moving finding a new place and new life; however, that might be considered a fantastic, child-like, dreamy consideration of a rather serious situation.
The third track from Jerichos’ upcoming EP Casa De Rosa, ‘Honeybee’ is a moving blend of indie-pop and surf rock with a slip of old-school funk lingering in the melody. Smooth and soothing in its kaleidoscopic wash of guitars, bass, keyboards and drums, ‘Honeybee’ wriggles into your ear, grabs your heart and has you twirling about in utter bliss. An expression of the excitement moving can bring, perhaps? Then again, just as the melody is entrancing, Jerichos’ vocals add profoundness to the melting pot of sound.
Rich and confident Jerichos’ voice fuses old-school funk with modern-day indie in its honey-dripping sweetness. Yet, as delectable as ‘Honeybee’ can be, an intricate interplay in the themes makes you take another look. Rejoicing in the romantic idea of discovering new worlds, a sense of freedom exists; however, we’re also told to enjoy the present not necessarily dream of the future exclusively. Jerichos explains:
“’Honeybee’ is a good old-fashioned love song. It is about the prospect of moving to another place and starting anew; romanticising being somewhere else. Another inspiration behind the song was not rushing things in life and nurturing the small moments that easily pass you by…”
