Jeremy Engel – I Got Caught (2022)

With a reputation for impassioned melodies and vulnerable lyrics, Ireland-based Jeremy Engel effortlessly connects with listeners in an intimate way. Tinged with the sounds of Damian Rice and Leonard Cohen, Engel has a rather unique sound. Blasting onto the scene in 2021, this singer-songwriter is making waves across the blogosphere being featured in Killing Moon, Given To Rock, Edgar Allan Poets, Hot Press and Roadie Music. The latest addition to his critically acclaimed discography is ‘I Got Caught’.

Following the folk-rock track ‘A Million Miles Away’, Jeremy Engel oozes vulnerability in his new single ‘I Got Caught’. Soft and soothing, the flowing melody combines pounding drums, powerful guitars and a heart-breaking string section. Merging with Engel’s gruff vocals, ‘I Got Caught’ is a sonic whirlpool in which you can become easily lost. While the arrangement allows for flowing instrumentation, the guitar riffs crescendo into hard-hitting choruses throughout enhancing the poignancy of the track. Hazy and haunting, ‘I Got Caught’ has an ethereal vibe only strengthened by Engel’s bold vocals.

Touching on themes of toxic relationships, ‘I Got Caught’ is a sonic representation of living in a suffocating romance. Exploring issues like inner turmoil, conflict, frustration, anxiety and vulnerability, Engel shares reflective insight on the situation. The internal battle is eloquently portrayed in his personal narrative, but it is the melody that shows us the heightened emotion being felt. Depth in poetic lyricism is coupled with intricate instrumentation highlighting his innovativeness as an artist.
