Jeffrey Chan – Looking (2025)
While his music leans toward a creative expression of LGBTQ+ society and its global sphere, singer-songwriter Jeffrey Chan enchants audiences with his bare-bones sassiness and evocative tenderness regardless of your identity or sexual preferences. From Australia and the USA to the UK, Germany, Brazil and beyond, Chan captures the core of modern-day society and lays it out for all to see. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Looking’.
Following his well-received singles ‘What Are Friends For’ and ‘My Oh My’, ‘Looking’ is Chan’s saunter into 2025. A taster to his upcoming EP – a release to celebrate queer culture and stories through bold pop – ‘Looking’ is a swoop of pop bound by pulsating electronic beats, shimmering synths, and a danceable attitude perfect for any club. Co-produced with Alex Lirosi, the new single doesn’t diverge too much from ‘What Are Friends For’ – another single set for dance floors; however, there appears to be something darker, deeper, and heavier than previous material.
One interesting feature I found in ‘Looking’ is its kaleidoscopic twirl of electronic pop and dark pop. Opening with a clean synth-driven tone backed by a heart-pounding pulsating beat, you can imagine this as a typical tune at any nightclub; however, its electronic line is not quite simplistic or steady. With an almost palpable sensuality, Chan dives into the seedier side of a chaotic night with a vivid dip into the provocative arena of flirtation and desire. He shares:
“Inspired by the familiar phrase “are you looking?” – a loaded question in queer spaces and apps like Grindr – the track blends spoken-word hooks with pulsating production, capturing the thrill of digital flirtation and the hunger for instant connect… It’s unapologetically horny and honest. This is our culture, our joy, our chaos – I wanted to make something that felt like all of that, but still hits hard in a club.”
