Jay Roecker – Pour On Me (2022)

With over a decade in the music industry, promoter and producer Jay Roecker has worked with some of the most successful names in the scene – think Hilary Duff, The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Jesse McCartney. Yet, while he was building a reputation as an established promoter working with the Radio Disney Network, it was always Roecker’s dream to create his own music. Spending his youth singing in choirs, competitions and musicals, his passion for music hit in childhood; however, it was only in 2015 that he released original material (according to Spotify, that is). The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Pour On Me’.

Following his album Don’t Give Up On Love (The Mega Remixes), ‘Pour On Me’ is Roecker’s first release since 2018. As with his previous material, Jay Roecker once again adopts a strong synth-pop meets electropop sound in ‘Pour On Me’. Lying somewhere between Avicii and Calvin Harris, the song’s beats pulsate through your body sending you into a swirl of electronic music. Interestingly enough, while a strong focus on electronica is heard, there is a lilt toward modern pop sounds in the well-textured arrangement. I could compare the vocals to something from Charlie Puth or Troye Sivan, however, Jay Roecker’s deep vocals bring a full-bodied richness into the sophisticated arrangement.

Described by Karl Is My Unkle as having “…psychedelic synth and atmospheric vocals…”, ‘Pour On Me’ is garnering positive praise from notable publications – and we’re no different. Beautiful swirls of kaleidoscopic pools emerge in the psychedelic sound taking you to another sonic dimension. What I find intriguing is how the concept of ‘Pour On Me’ aligns with and contrasts the charming melody. Roecker explains that he “…wrote ‘Pour On Me’ when I was looking for the love that had been faltering in my relationship…” To me, the sonic swirls represent a desire to find something new and the melancholic pool of love lost.
