Jared Harper – If I Can’t Have You (2020)

Being on NBC’s The Voice, as is the case with any TV talent show that has a large audience can at the same time be a blessing and a curse. Very often, it has nothing to do with whether you really have some talent. Actually, there are two ways your future career can go dead in the water – it turns out that your ‘voice’ is not as good as it should be, or you write or are given some really mediocre music material to deal with. No wonder then that audiences are often quite wary of artists that come out of such talent shows.

Jared Harper took part in The Voice: Season 18 and here he is now with a gentle piece called ‘If I Can’t Have You’. Frankly, it makes no difference whether somebody wants to look at the fact he was on a TV talent show as a stigma or not. Here he has come up with quite a gentle piece of his take on what you can freely call a Beatles tribute – a route many artists have already taken with a varying degree of success, but, Harper makes it easily through.

An easy on the ear mid-tempo ballad that showcases his vocals and just a touch of echo effects at one point, but also a very punchy, Clapton-esque electric guitar solo that gives the song that extra touch.

Judging by ‘If I Can’t Have You,’ Jared Harper will swim to the good side just fine.
