Janeuary – Back where I belong (2024)

Music is more than sound, it is more than emotion, it is more than something that explores various themes or gives messages, music is a part of life. It is a part of listeners. It is a source of solace, celebration, comfort, acceptance – human essence in all its good and bad parts. One composer who seems to “get it” is singer-songwriter Janeuary.

Unafraid to dig into the deepest pit of her heart and share her soul with listeners, Janeuary’s melodies transcend time, distance and generations ensuring everyone connects in a sonic swirl. A bit intense, I know, but this songstress explains, “Every time I go to the studio, I do everything to the best of my ability, just like for the last time. It’s like I’m going to die tomorrow…”

Following her well-received singles ‘Bam Bam Bam’ and ‘Awakening’, Janeuary finds the line between alternative pop and classical music, then blurs it with a swift sweep of her hand in ‘Back where I belong’. Recorded and produced by Volodymyr Grigorovitch, with mixing and mastering by Andriy Kravchenko, January is joined by violist Maxim Oshchepkov in this skin-tingling composition. Simplistic at its core, ‘Back where I belong’ is an acoustic combination of viola, piano and Janeuary’s chilling vocals; however, the emotion and depth resonating from each “voice” makes the single kaleidoscopic. Moreover, while each instrument has a prominent personality demanding attention, it all comes together as a harmonic symphony.

While ‘Back where I belong’ brims with fragility, melancholy and brutal vulnerability, it is also hopeful and empowering with Janeuary displaying the wisdom of an “old soul in modern society”. She explains:

“I felt that something more was coming than just a “new composition”. I immediately felt its power as it approached… when I wrote, at five in the morning, looking at the dawn, I realised that there was no turning back. I wrote something eternal… This song is a story about love. This is the only thing that humanity will have at the end of existence…”
