Beginning as the standout performer on the UK’s X Factor, Janet Devlin – the then-teenager – quickly caught the attention of international industry professionals and, well, fate took over. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Country Singer’.
Following her well-received single, ‘Emotional Rodeo’, ‘Country Singer’ is the second track on her upcoming album Emotional Rodeo – a fearless showcasing of Devlin’s versatility, innovation and brutal honesty as an artist. Exploring reality as a young woman in the 21st century, ‘Country Singer’ tackles the intricacies and complexities of modern-day relationships. From the edge of intimate vulnerability to self-empowerment, Devlin explains:
“Stepping into and owning my womanhood meant stepping into self-belief… In my work, I was a confident, self-assured and empowered woman, but why was I still insecurely hanging on to male validation in my personal life? Created with award-winning producer Vance Powell, ‘Country Singer’ leans strongly toward vintage country and Americana sounds; however, a contemporary alternative rock edginess adds the “don’t mess with me” attitude. Pounding drums crash behind a soaring guitar with slips of piano interspersed through the melody, but it is Devlin’s bold vocals that up the ante. Confident, daring, and rebellious in the already rambunctious tune, you know this is a girl who has a softer side but will not be messed with.
