Jane N’ The Jungle – Cut Me Open (2023)

Known for their hard-hitting, energetic, force of nature musicality, hard rock duo Jane N’ The Jungle is one of the best-kept secrets hailing from Denver; although, given their praises from an international audience, I’m unsure how much of a secret they are. Jordan White (lead vocals and songwriter) and Brian Dellis (guitar and songwriter) weave the delicate strands of their childhood friendship in moving melodies. They captured our hearts in 2021 with ‘Trouble’, ensnared our senses with 2022’s ‘METAL GHOST’, and took us on a sonic soul-soaring journey in 2023’s ‘WASTELAND’. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘CUT ME OPEN’.

Following the well-received singles ‘BED OF ROSES’ and ‘WASTELAND’, Jane N’ The Jungle retain the passionate rawness of their signature style in ‘Cut Me Open’. Yet, while a strong melodic metal meets hard rock ferocity bursts from the song, there is a greater vulnerability lurking beneath the bold beats. Dellis’ scorching guitars twirl about with the pounding drums in a harmonic crash of sound but also demand attention in their own right. The brash guitar solo turns your head tossing you from pillar to post in reckless abandon but steps back for White’s subdued vocals.

Interestingly, while the layering of guitars and drums is somewhat obnoxious (in a good way), White’s heady vocals add a sense of sincerity to ‘Cut Me Open’. The thing is, just as there is a sentimental quality to White’s voice, it aligns with the painful fragility in a mire of desperate confusion. A tribute to the bride of Frankenstein that has “a similar theme of being produced for the likes of someone else”, Jane N’ The Jungle’s ‘Cut Me Open’ is powerful but with a sharp stab of torment.

In addition to the single, Jane N’ The Jungle released a lyric video for ‘Cut Me Open’. You can view the video on their YouTube channel or below. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
