Jane N’ The Jungle – BED OF ROSES (2023)
Heavy, hard-hitting, and filled with a “punch you in the chest before kissing you on the mouth” attitude, Jane N’ The Jungle is a source of hard rock joy. Technically formed approximately 10 years ago when childhood friends Jordan White (lead vocals and songwriter) and Brian Dellis (guitar and songwriter) founded a garage rock band, Jane N’ The Jungle stems from a heartfelt friendship laced with music. Sweet and sugary that may sound but White and Dellis are far from sugary-sweet…in fact, the brash style would sweep any sugar from the sonic bubble. Already reaching our ears in 2021 with ‘Trouble’, we are constantly astounded by the pair’s ingenuity and originality.
Following the well-received tracks ‘WASTELAND’ and ‘Raw as a Jewel’, Jane N’ The Jungle bring an eclectic blend of punk, melodic metal and hard rock with ‘BED OF ROSES’. Recorded in collaboration with producers Maxamillion Haunt and Chuck Alkazian, ‘BED OF ROSES’ has an elegant sophistication to the arrangement. Yet, just as there is a maturity to the melody, Dellis’ guitar and White’s vocals ooze a crass rawness slipping a naïve brashness into the elegant melody. Harmonic but also distorted, the tune gives a sense of discomfort and disconcerting which we adore in its tumultuous haze.
Unlike ‘WASTELAND’ which was a blast of powerful melodic metal with tinges of hard rock, ‘BED OF ROSES’ takes things down just a tad. As I mentioned, there is discomfort but a soothing ease is woven through the song. While Dellis’ guitar can send your soul soaring with its bold riffs and melodic metal ferocity, it is White’s vocals that seep into your skin and stick in your head for days. A slight Bjork obscurity can be heard in White’s voice; however, a uniqueness can be heard creating a sound that is purely Jane N’ The Jungle.
