Jane N’ The Jungle – Beauty Queen (2024)
Living in a world of uncertainties, instability and isolation – even if you have tons of friends on TikTok or Instagram – Jane N’ The Jungle capture life in its grittiest form and lays it bare in their moving melodies. From the madness of ‘GTFO’ driven by issues of capitalism and gun violence to 2023’s ‘CUT ME OPEN’, an ode to inner turmoil and confusion, the US-based duo are unafraid of reaching into miserable despair while screaming out in rage. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Beauty Queen’.
Despite the growing acknowledgement and understanding of challenging issues, the 21st century is a reality of awareness but still pulsating disillusion. The voice for Millennials, Jordan White (vocals) and Brian Dellis (guitar) dissect hopeful childhood dreams with discouraging, disappointing, and just plain “where did all the glistening fairy dust go” attitudes.
Romanticising the West with dreams of being just like Joey on Friends. Embracing female empowerment with Alanis Morissette and The Spice Girls, adoring the brashness of Eminem and boldness of Green Day, we were bred on the dreamy ideal in the 90s. While romanticism has not yet subsided, we’re more aware of what’s happening and question whether it would have been as great as we thought. Life was intriguing, exciting and plans for the future flushed with fairy dust… oh how reality stomped on our hearts.
Combining the raw power of scorching guitars and pounding drums, you find yourself in a kaleidoscopic whirlwind of heightened emotion when listening to ‘Beauty Queen’; however, White’s vocals are a haunting desperation that is weighty but also lilting. Brimming with ferocity, the aggression of the tune is like a raging scream… then again, the silvery vocals have a silence to them oozing yearning, despair and tragedy, like stamping on the brightness of a beauty queen to a faded speck of light. The band explain:
“Anything can happen with a little sunshine in our new single… ‘Beauty Queen’ as we face the challenges of the millennial lost dream and false realities from our childhood…”
In addition to the single, Jane N’ The Jungle release a music video for ‘Beauty Queen’. The video can be viewed below or via their YouTube channel.
