This might be the first time I hear Shew sing, but she is a seasoned musician reaching international audiences and winning hearts across the globe. Known for her captivating jazz style, her velvety vocals, and soulful interpretations of life at its most intimate, the US-based Shew has carved her niche and stamped her name on the music industry. Following the critically acclaimed 2024 single, ‘Enough’, ‘Letters From You’ marks a shift from Shew’s signature jazz to a softer, smoother, pop-inspired sound. “Initially, I wanted this song to be about all the quirky, funny things and memories of my grandma that we all reminisced about during a family reunion… As I was writing down all my memories of her… I realised something very important. This woman more than loved her family, but she was extremely lonely… Through the discovery of old letters between her and her mother, I uncover a deep longing for connection, family, and the inevitable sadness that comes with dementia and fading memories.
