James Harriman – Love and Faith and Lust (2024)

As a producer, James Harriman has experience working with various genres from dance music to rock and folk; as a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, his solo undertaking is as diverse. With over a decade in the music industry, Harriman has performed with musical artists, in theatre productions, at festivals and as an entertaining cover artist being “…a favourite at Beer Festivals in pubs and bars around the country…” Just as his confident onstage presence ensnares live audiences, UK-based Harriman turns heads internationally with his engaging melodies.

A serendipitous meeting at a karaoke bar in Bath, James Harriman met Chris James and after a chat and sharing of music, led to the collaborative tune ‘Love and Faith and Lust’. Originally penned eight years ago, the track remained an unfinished song on Harriman’s laptop; however, discovering James’ sound and loving it, Harriman decided it was time to finish the track and Chris James was the one to take on the task. He explains:

“The pre-chorus and chorus of this song were written back in 2016 when I was in my first year of university. A time when I would go out drinking almost every night and could often be found in the Students Union with a bottle of wine in my hand… After an uncomfortable sort of ‘relationship’ ended, I wrote a few songs to let my feelings out. This is one of those songs. I could never finish the song’s verses because I had moved on from the feelings I felt at the time… six years later, Chris came in to play. He took my words and ran with the sentiment… Sometimes you have to realise that you’re not in love, you’re just there for the fun…”

Tackling the complexities of relationships with a reflection of “love” versus “lust”, ‘Love and Faith and Lust’ is a profound song. Not only is it profound lyrically, but the intricacy of emotion lingers in its melody. Produced by J.U.R.B. (Harriman’s alter ego), the song taps into various flavours of pop. A strong leaning toward dream-pop exists with shimmering synths and bold beats; however, a hit of indie-pop slices through with guitars and keyboards. The combination of Harriman and James’ vocals enhances the infectious sing-along pop quality while simultaneously retaining a hint of vulnerable melancholy.
