Jadamarie – Fallen Angel (2023)
If Amy Winehouse and Phoebe Bridgers were to have a child, but it was raised by Lizzy McAlpine, the chances are it would be Jadamarie. Based in the USA, singer-songwriter Jadamarie finds the line between jazz and soulful pop in her heart-melting melodies. Known for her eclectic music, this songstress has been reaching audiences since 2021 featuring in Illustrate Magazine, Obscure Sound, Plastic Mag, Mystic Sons, and various playlists. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Fallen Angel’.
Following her track ‘Love??’, which also happens to have an instrumental version, Jadamarie adopts a jazz-inspired sound in ‘Fallen Angel’. Unlike the ethereal dream-pop tone of ‘Love??’, the new single weaves jazz into a hazy soundscape. Yet, while there is a strong dreaminess to ‘Fallen Angel’, it seems to melt away somewhere in the middle of the song bringing an old-school jazz sound with slivers of indie-folk thrown in for good measure. Her rich tones are reminiscent of Sade but with a Phoebe Bridgers softness showcasing her innovativeness as an artist.
Penned as an empowering song for all “…starving artists”, Jadamarie began writing this introspective song in 2021. She explains that “I was contemplating my decision to move to Los Angeles for a music career. I was fearful of being one of those artists that never made it. The only way I could process this feeling was by picking up my guitar and singing whatever my mind felt like…the term ‘fallen angel’ summed up the frustration of trying to ‘make it’ in this industry.”
As I mentioned, the song is an empowering one where Jadamarie hopes to help other artists “…realise that they are noticed and appreciated no matter how underground they may seem.” However, just as a positive note lies within the smoky single, it also has a sense of raw vulnerability and despair oozing forth. Passionate and insightful, Jadamarie touches our hearts with her single ‘Fallen Angel’.
