Jacre – Only Love Could Be So Blind (2024)

A shining symbol of never being too old to follow your dreams, singer-songwriter Julian Ransom is an inspiration to those who haven’t yet reached where they dare go and might be willing to give up. In fact, his journey was featured in a YouTube documentary highlighting this determination. Alongside his YouTube debut, Julian Ramson (performing as Jacre) has helped a Power Ranger begin a music career, had lyrics published in a poetry anthology, and is constantly turning heads with his moving melodies. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Only Love Could Be So Blind’.

Described as an atmospheric, flowing, and captivating listening experience, Ransom has the unique ability to reach into your soul, grasp your heart, steal your breath, and leave you hypnotised in its exquisiteness. Perfect considering his songs are immersive taps into reality and the human spirit. ‘Only Love Could Be So Blind’ tackles the raw passion behind a romantic relationship. He explains:

“My songs are usually fictional, but this one is based on a relationship that I had a long time ago where I slowly began to realise that almost everything she’d ever told me was a lie. The lyrics focus on being out in nature, noticing that there are subtle things wrong, with a growing realisation that the wrongness is with the person you love.”

Recorded and produced in collaboration with Dominic Romano, mixed by Charles-Henry Volk and mastered by Philip Marsden, ‘Only Love Could Be So Blind’ is a simplistic concoction of folk-pop infused with vintage folk undertones. While the track has a minimalistic piano-driven approach combined with Ransom’s rich vocals, there is a melodic rollercoaster from verse to chorus. A barebones starkness exists, then quickly crescendos to a kaleidoscopic whirl of bold guitar and drums before returning to the piano-driven melody.

Sincere, sentimental and introspective, ‘Only Love Could Be So Blind’ is a whirlwind tale of tender hope lost in vulnerable despair. If this is my introduction to Julian Ransom, I cannot wait to see what else he has up his sleeve.
