Jacre – Just Hold On (2024)
With a reputation for infectious melodies brimming with heartfelt lyricism and moving sounds, singer-songwriter Jacre has been described as a musical genius, insatiable, and “on the verge of angelic”. The project of UK-based musician Julian Ransom, Jacre (pronounced jay-ker) began sharing music four years in 2020 turning heads internationally with his innovation and originality. We came across Jacre a few months ago with his single ‘Only Love Could Be So Blind’; today we delve into his latest single ‘Just Hold On’. Come with us, won’t you?
Following his well-received tracks ‘If You See Her’ and ‘Not Falling’, ‘Just Hold On’ is a concoction of acoustic instrumentation delicately woven into a tender few minutes of music. A piano-driven track with lingering percussion, Jacre showcases how simplicity can be more moving than the greatest kaleidoscopic rush of electronic music. For me, however, the collaboration with Harley Eblen on the strings sprinkles an extra something special to ‘Just Hold On’. Interestingly, while strings tend to have a haunting effect, there is an uplifting hopefulness weaving through the skin-tingling vulnerability of Eblen’s contribution.
Produced by Dominic Romano with Charles-Hery Volk (mixing) and Philip Marsden (mastering), ‘Just Hold On’ has a warm soothing sensation intricately woven with a flutter of melancholy and fragility. Jacre’s smooth, dulcet vocals are calming, yet simultaneously send shivers down your spine grabbing at your heart. It perfectly aligns with the theme of resilience, hope, and promised light at the end of the tunnel.
Inspired by a fan who “reached out to Jacre, seeking a song that could encapsulate their personal journey of healing and perseverance…”, ‘Just Hold On’ recognises struggles and conflict while retaining reflective honesty in its uplifting indie-folk.
In addition to the single, Jacre released an official music video for ‘Just Hold On’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
