Jacob Reddy – What Living’s For (2023)

Bursting at the seams with vibrant charisma, singer-songwriter Jacob Reddy is ready to take on anything life throws at him and is taking you along for the ride. Known for his compelling sound, Reddy has been described as prolific, memorable, dynamic and an incredible performer. Barely out of adolescence, Reddy has played at Glastonbury Festival, performed a sold-out first headline gig at the Deaf Institute in Manchester, featured on BBC Introducing and ITY, supported UK band The Lottery Winners, played a stadium gig at Leigh Leopards RLFC, and is featured on numerous international blogs, newspapers and playlists. He first hit our ears in 2021 with his debut single ‘Outside The Box’; he taps us again on the shoulder with his most recent single ‘What Living’s For’.

Following his single ‘Wear The Crown’, Reddy tips his hat at the pop-rock sounds of the 90s with ‘What Living’s For’. A breath of Oasis fringed the previous track, and I might be tempted to compare him to Weezer in the new song; however, it wouldn’t be fair to any of them. With a unique flair driving the pounding drums and crashing guitars, Jacob Reddy brings a contemporary bounce to a swoop of nostalgic pop-rock. Distinctive bold vocals slather the instrumentation adding an inimitable quality to his music.

From the outset, ‘What Living’s For’ is packed with good vibes, optimism, hopefulness and empowerment in a chilled-out sonic wrapper. From the fiery guitar to the crashing drums and Reddy’s warm voice, you find yourself lost in a kaleidoscopic pool of bouncy joy. Touching on aspects of self-belief and freedom, he shows us the light at the end of that mundane, anxiety-ridden tunnel.

“’What Living’s For’ is an anthemic testament to self-belief, encouraging us to cast aside doubt and take control of our own destiny. People often lack confidence in themselves, and every day seems the same. This song aims to get them out of a rut, really believe that things can get better and grab every opportunity that presents itself…” – Jacob Reddy on ‘What Living’s For’
