IZE VLDRICH – Summer ’07 (2020)
IZE VLDRICH has taken teen angst and turned it into his indie single ‘Summer ‘07’. As with all his music, VLDRICH is not conforming to a single genre with this track moving from dream pop to pop-rock and surf tones. They all come together for a nostalgic journey perfectly captured in his official music video.
You might know VLDRICH from the four-piece group IZE including VINSIN, OKAMI and FELI. While they get together to make music every now and then, each member also does their own thing. In his solo work, VLDRICH draws on a range of influences including No Vacation, Daphne Loves Derby and Yeek.
‘Summer ‘07’ draws you in with a strumming guitar line. The light notes that enter over this line add a hint of nostalgic flair to the music as the opening slowly progresses. The music is a wonderful blend of indie-pop and indie-rock with a light dusting of surf. While it does not send your imagination to the beach, it does have you thinking of warm summer days of years gone by. There is a great swaying motion to the melody that gets your body moving to it while the drums roll in the low levels. There is a guitar riff later in the track that is so easy to listen to that you just float to it.
VLDRICH’s vocals add to the nostalgic vibe while bringing a feeling of teenage angst. His performance is almost lo-fi in its delivery with a slight echoing to it. His delivery brings the emotions of the lyrics to the fore in a unique way that is really engaging. As the melody shimmers below his voice, he takes you through feelings of not wanting to be where you are while hitting you with longing for something else.
The official music video starts with VLDRICH face down in the sand. The story takes you through him being stranded in the middle of nowhere and trying to make his way back home. This is interspersed with anime clips. The video has an indie movie feeling that hits on the nostalgia and angst of the lyrics and vocals. The video is so easy to watch and rather mesmerising as you vibe to the music.
IZE VLDRICH has you floating on waves of nostalgia and teenage angst in the engaging ‘Summer ‘07’. The single uses a hazy guitar-driven melody to float you down a river of nostalgia. His vocals add the emotional waves to the stream.
