Into The Light – Bridge (2023)

With their experiences in various bands, US-based alt-rock group Into The Light brings their vast influences to light in one outstanding sound. Formed in 2022, Adam Vernick (vocals and guitar), Rob Antonucci (guitar), Jay Trovato (bass) and Mike Barnes (drums) may be artists in other bands but Into The Light is their new project. Despite their newness in the music scene, the lads are already turning heads with critical acclaim from cross-continental publications From The Strait, Send Us Your Ears, SwitchBitch Noise, Clout and Mystic Sons.

On the heels of their debut single ‘Manuscript’, which earned them praise as “thoughtful and emotive…” (Clout), Into The Light released their sophomore single ‘Bridge’. While ‘Manuscript’ showcased a dreamy, ethereal flavour of rock, ‘Bridge’ presents a more aggressive side to the lads.

Pounding drums match explosive guitars sparking hard rock electricity from the arrangement. Yet, while there is a harmonic fusion between these sparks, each instrument is granted prominence within the distorted soundscape. What I mean is, you get a thrill with each drumbeat, guitar riff and gritty note from Vernick’s gruff vocals adding a live band feel to the in-studio recording. Recorded with producer Steve Sopchak at More Sound in Syracuse, New York, ‘Bridge’ is a forceful melody from the first chord. Tossing you into a kaleidoscopic whirlpool of insanity, the chaos is organised, but you still feel linger of this frenzied madness…in a good way, though.

What I find intriguing but also refreshing is how ‘Bridge’ differs from ‘Manuscript’. With the hard rock almost metal influences, there is a fierceness to ‘Bridge’ unlike the dreaminess of ‘Manuscript’. It highlights Into The Light’s versatility as artists and proves we have yet to determine any sort of set tone to their music. I look forward to discovering more from this highly recommended band.
