Indoor Friends – I Hate It Here (2022)

With their single ‘I Hate It Here’, Indoor Friends is offering us an anthem for recent times. Using a punch of alternative rock and punk-rock, they touch on the events across the world that have been dragging all of us into darkness. Packed with lyrics fuelled by disappointment in the world and the selfishness of people in everyday life, the single will have you revved up with an incredible dose of energy.

This anthem of disappointment is brought to our souls by Amanda Bysheim (vocals), Kat Delitto (guitar), Krista Marie Setera (ukulele, backing vocals), Ben Bonadies (bass) and Matt Wilson (drums). They came together as a band through every possible social means, from dating apps to being co-workers and long-term friends. Together, they merge their musical sensibilities and unleash everything from foot-stomping blasts to gentle ballads.

‘I Hate It Here’ hits the ground running with a punchy guitar line that has you sitting up and taking note. The energy of the guitars vibrates into your veins, before the drums get your feet tapping to the rhythm. There is an undeniably addictive vibe to the melody that makes you want to rock out to the sound. The pulse and push of the chorus brings the anthemic edge to the track, that makes you want to stand up and unleash your feelings into the world. Through the single, there is a building of energy in your body that threatens to vibrate out of your bones. Fortunately, the vocals offer an outlet for this energy, while taking the catchy anthemics of the single to a new level of addictive.

Bysheim’s vocals enter with the monotony of life and the depressed feelings that many of us feel every day. Through the opening verse, she brings a desire for escape that is backed up by the backing vocals that bring a connected feeling to the emotions. The chorus is a soaring anthemic shout of emotions that have been locked up for too long. The energy that the melody packed into your bones is unleashed on the chorus as you let the world know how you feel. It is an extremely catchy vocal performance that is extremely easy to relate to. By the end of the track, you are going to be shouting out with them while turning the volume up to blast this unleashing of feelings.

With an infectious anthemic rock vibe, Indoor Friends bring a punch of emotion that is undeniably relatable with ‘I Hate It Here’. The melody vibrates energy into your bones that is just waiting to be unleashed. An outlet is provided by the vocals that make you want to sing along and really let loose.
