India and the Jones – Caught In The Middle (2021)

Individuality is something that should be celebrated and this is what India and the Jones is doing with their single ‘Caught in the Middle’. Capturing an air of curiosity and infecting a flare of excitement, they take you on a soulfully smooth journey down the winding road of life. As you walk down the path of life with them, they question why you should conform to societal expectations when redefining ourselves with each step is much more freeing.

This embracing of individuality comes from India Jordan (guitars, keys) and Projay (guitar, keys, drums, bass). Over the years, Jones has been honing her musical craft singing supporting vocals. When she met Projay in 2014, they instantly clicked and have been writing music together ever since.

‘Caught in the Middle’ has a rather theatrical feeling to the opening. This is wrapped around a retro-soul vibe that is all smoothness and light tones. The clicking tones that ride the beats add to this vibe while the chorus is a wash of glittering tones. There is a delightful richness to the music that washes over you with a thick luxuriousness. Your shoulders will want to sway and move to the melody as it covers you in the decadent tones.

While the melody is all richness and luxurious tones, Jordan’s vocals are a light that skips over it. The soulful flows of her vocals are as vibrant as the higher tones of the melody. Her vocal performance is powerful as she fills you with the controlled emotions of the lyrics. There is a questioning within the lyrics as she captures the search for who we really are. This is played against a knowledge of the pressures society puts on people. Dancing through these pressures is the understanding that your individuality lies outside what conforms to societal views and that this is perfectly acceptable.

India and the Jones slide with a soulful smoothness into your ears to tell you that individuality is good and that you don’t need to conform in ‘Caught in the Middle’. The melody has a theatrical edge that slides into a richness that drips from your senses. Jordan’s vocals are as decadent as the melody as she fills you with the understanding that being different is not a bad thing.
