Immerse -Self Destruct (2022)

How should you respond to negative times? The Bristol quartet Immerse seems to have the answer: with as positive an attitude as you can muster, particularly towards the music and with music. That positive attitude seems to have worked for the band so far because since their release of two albums they have already started to form a solid fan base with tours of the UK and Europe. Oh, and support from the likes of Rock Sound, Metal Hammer, Kerrang, Total Rock Radio, Idobi Radio, Dead Press, Gig Radar, BBC, Dreambound, Triple J, Moshville Times, Distorted Sound Magazine, V13, and plenty of official playlisting with Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, Digster, Filtr and more. To further their success so far, Immerse has now come up with a new single titled ‘Self Destruct’.

With its heavy rhythm, booming guitars, and vocals to boot, they add some more poppy, upbeat touches that perfectly exemplify their positive attitude, particularly to their music. Vocalist Archie Hatfield explains “’Self Destruct’ is a song about arguing with my own head during the lockdown. I noticed a pattern forming whilst we had to isolate; where I would turn to drinking due to boredom. This led me to a depressive state that was enhanced by the situation we were in. This song is about my battle and how hard it can be to slip into a bad routine and dig yourself further into that hole.”

Guitarist Tim Brown adds “Writing ‘Self Destruct’ gave me so much joy as I could really go crazy with synths and implement some cool guitar work. ‘Self Destruct’ started to become alive once I began moulding the music around the chorus hook. We wanted to make a song that gets the crowd moving and I definitely think we’ve achieved that!” With all the musical touches Brown put into the song, Hatfield’s battle turns into one that brings positive results. As positive, as ‘Self Destruct’ turns out to be.
