ibbi Too Vicious – Sybarite Tendencies (2021)

If Sex Pistols were to have a lovechild with Mindless Self Indulgence but it was raised by Yungblud, the chances are it would be ibbi Too Vicious. Combining his first name with Sid Vicious, Ibrahim Munir is the brains behind this 21st Century punk-rocker. Oozing exuberance, ibbi is a fiery force to be reckoned with. He began embracing music as a teenager writing songs at 16 and now, at the age of 19, he blasts through our headphones with a boundary-breaking sound.

Known for his energetic and almost insane performances jumping from one side of the stage to the other while screaming his lungs out, ibbi Too Vicious shows a great likeness to his namesake Sid Vicious. Yet, ibbi shows a contemporary take on a traditional punk style incorporating elements of electronica, emo, nu-metal and grunge. I could compare him to the likes of Mindless Self Indulgence, Linkin Park, Papa Roach or Limp Bizkit, but that would be a lie. These bands may be crazy, but ibbi’s music is just beautiful insanity.

The debut single from the 21st-century punk-rock demon, ‘Sybarite Tendencies’ is a sonic representation of hedonism and anarchy. Raw energy is coupled with hard-hitting beats plunging you into a kaleidoscopic whirlwind of unadulterated indulgence. With the pounding drums and hard-hitting guitars, ‘Sybarite Tendencies’ has an infectious musical arrangement made to pulsate through your veins and leave you gasping for breath.

While the instrumentation can make you swirl about in a heady ambience, it is ibbi Too Vicious’ vocals that add the contemporary element to the track. Atop the punk-rock design, ibbi presents a youthful carelessness through heavy, rash and abrupt lyrical execution. Exposing the grittier side of the human psyche, he looks at and sings about all those hedonistic ideals that we keep hidden.

Provocative and highly evocative, the US-based singer-songwriter jumps into your brain, slithers down your spine and leaves your body reverberating with ‘Sybarite Tendencies’. With its recklessness and frenzy, one would imagine a chaotic few minutes of music, but it is oddly harmonious in the franticness. I would love to see ibbi Too Vicious perform this song and share in his little bit of organised chaos.
