ibbi Too Vicious – Party Alone (2022)

Taking inspiration from life in its entirety, US-based singer-songwriter ibbi Too Vicious expresses the innermost feelings and experiences modern people face in everyday life. In ‘Closed Doors’ he touched on “how nobody knows what we do behind closed doors”, and in ‘Sybarite Tendencies‘ he explored careless youthfulness singing about hedonistic ideals. The latest addition to ibbi Too Vicious’ well-received discography is ‘Party Alone’ – let’s see what he has to say.

Described as the second instalment to his pop-influenced, less punk chaos “summery pop alter ego”, ‘Party Alone’ slathers synths with bold beats in a contemporary pop meets hip hop style. Finding the delicate balance between Charlie Puth and Shawn Mendes, ‘Party Alone’ has heavy pop vibes; however, there ibbi Too Vicious’ distinctive style stands out in the single. Rich, warm and tender, his vocal execution sends you soaring atop the toe-tapping melody.

Easily intoxicating with his loveable charm, ibbi Too Vicious shares an intense vulnerability in ‘Party Alone’ – a vulnerability that is heard in his previous material but with less frenzy. What I enjoy about ‘Party Alone’ is how it oozes a passionate awkwardness in the lyrical content but has a confident boldness in the melody. ibbi Too Vicious explains that ‘Party Alone’ is “about coming into a party and seeing someone who you’ve been talking to and then they act distant and weird when you show up. It’s that feeling of not knowing if there is a problem or not…this song explores that feeling and how it forced me to party alone…”

Sincere, sentimental, reflective and vulnerable, ‘Party Alone’ exposes human fragility in the midst of a big party. It’s brutally honest and I cannot wait for more from ibbi Too Vicious.
