Hotline – The Gram (2020)
It all began back in 2013 when three young gentlemen from France started playing together in a garage band. Fast forward a few (or more) years and you’ll see these three young gents combining their talents to form the pop group Hotline. The debut single from this threesome is ‘The Gram’.
Recorded and self-produced at Sodasound Studio in Paris, ‘The Gram’ is a fantastic fusion of lo-fi, pop and hip-hop with some twinges of indie-rock guitar riffs in the background. Written as a commentary of the interactions between people on social media, particularly Instagram, ‘The Gram’ uses the melodic style to push witty lyricism. While not altogether soothing or languid, effortless vocals cause a flowing of sound which can be considered highly addictive. Listening to this single, I have to say that these lads are far more than charm and good looks – they have some serious musical talent as well.
