Hotel California – Soothe My Soul (2021)

When an artist picks up the name Hotel California, you immediately think of some countrified rock and The Eagles – a band that had a hit with a song and the album of the same name. So, sure, Daniel Green who lives somewhere in Northern Europe and goes under this artistic name might have been inspired by The Eagles and their success. Nothing wrong with that. Remember, before they went big The Eagles produced some excellent country rock/Americana quite inspired by the singer-songwriter sound that was so prominent in the first half of the 70s. This is where Green comes in with his new single ‘Soothe My Soul’.

More in the tradition of that early 70s West Coast sound and quality singer-songwriters from Paul Simon and Neil Young to James Taylor and few others, ‘Soothe My Soul’ brings us that assured, mellow, you can call it “sunny” sound that does exactly what the title promises: soothes our souls. It is all Green’s vocals, acoustic guitars with some subdued keyboards and electronics that bring a modern touch to the sound.

Are sun and summer inspiration here? Certainly. As Daniel himself puts it, “When I first became aware of daylight lamps I suddenly understood: It’s not just me. We all need more light in winter times. Especially in Covid times in bigger cities with apartments without balconies. Maybe evolution meant for us to live nearer to the sun. Spain, Mexico, or something.” We certainly need that summer feeling these days and Hotel California makes sure we get it with ‘Soothe My Soul’.
