Holly Wild – Messy (2022)

A passionate storyteller with a poetic style, Australian Holly Wild blends elements of pop, folk and electronica in her songs. With her studies of the Kabbalah in a lifelong quest for spiritual wisdom, Wild exudes personal growth, self-empowerment and enlightenment in her confessional lyricism. Featured on Lefuturewave, Wolf In A Suit, New Artists Spotlight, iHeart Radio and various playlists, Wild is increasing her following on a global scale. The latest addition to Holly Wild’s discography is the single ‘Messy’.

Hot on the heels of her track ‘Thrill Of It’, Wild weaves threads of folk into a contemporary pop sonic tapestry in ‘Messy’. Soft, soothing and toe-tapping, the new track embraces the “Taylor Swift style” ballad; however, there is a sound that is distinctly Holly with its sweetness but also vulnerability. The rich acoustic piano traverse beats, pounding drums and guitar – all in a melodic, harmonic arrangement. Taken all of this it appears that Wild is searching (and finds) the delicate line between organic and synthetic in ‘Messy’.

While the melody has a flowing, laidback vibe to it, there is a juxtaposition between tune and lyrics. The track has a chilled-out tone but explores human fragility in its two-minute package. The song implores people to “be real with each other” – break the mould of being strong for everyone and show your true vulnerability. When speaking about the origins of ‘Messy’, Wild explains that she “…couldn’t see my husband was stressed until there was an explosion, because he was so careful to protect us. It shouldn’t be like that; he should feel safe to fall apart when he needs to.”

Charming, endearing, sincere and, actually, bringing a bit of empowerment to the mix, Holly Wild releases her heartfelt single ‘Messy’.
