Holly Wild – Inside My Head (2023)

From her debut single ‘Love Chooses You’ to the most recent single ‘Inside My Head’, Wild is turning heads from Indonesia’s ParaPop to the UK’s York Calling, and France’s Lefuturewave. With big chorus hooks, charming melodies and an infectious voice, it is difficult to not pay attention to this Australian songstress.
Following her singles ‘Rest of my Life’ and ‘Messy’, Wild’s ‘Inside My Head’ is her first release in 2023. Blasting into the New Year with this eclectic song, she blends contemporary pop with electronica, a dash of indie-pop and tinges of indie-rock. While the melody and Wild’s vocals do contain originality and authenticity, there is a reminiscence of Katy Perry and Tayler Swift in a commercial pop tone; however, a blast of Alanis Morrissette’s rock-tinged rawness simultaneously flows through the melody.
Tossing you into a kaleidoscopic swirl of music, ‘Inside My Head’ is mellifluous, yet there is a wildness to the disconcerting single. Interestingly enough, the eclecticism and discomforting tangle of sounds is elegant with a sophisticated charm. An intimate intensity oozes through the poetic lyricism as Holly Wild uses her storytelling prowess to connect with listeners. Wild explains that ‘Inside My Head’ “…is a song about the negative dialogue that goes around in my head, the endless loop telling me that I’m the jack of all trades but the master of none. Chipping away at my self-confidence every day…”
