Hollows – Ghosts (2022)
With a growing reputation for energetic and engaging music, UK-based band Hollows are building a strong following both on and off-stage. Already featured on The Other Side Reviews, we know about these lads; however, we are not the only ones who have had their heads turned. Coverage from RGM, Music For The Misfits, Chalkpit Records, BBC Radio, Amazing X, XS Manchester and various playlists (including editorial playlists on Apple Music and Spotify) show that Hollows is an international sensation. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Ghosts’.
Combining the talents of frontman Sean Davies, Jack Barnes (bass), Liam Lewis (guitar) and Dan Dyson (drums), Hollows has developed a signature sound that is evident in their new tracks. The second single released in 2022, ‘Ghosts’ follows the acclaimed song ‘Enough (These Bones)’. Retaining their strong indie-rock influence, ‘Ghosts’ blend pounding drums with dynamic guitars and Davies’ charming vocals. Yet, unlike ‘Enough (These Bones)’, the new single has a more soothing, sophisticated and smooth flow – well, as soothing as an indie-rock song can be.
Inserting a tinge of alternative rock into the melody, there is a roughness to the tune, particularly with the scorching guitar. I’m sorry, but the impressive guitar solo closing the song needs to be acknowledged. Interestingly enough, the melody is completely aligned with its darker, more haunting theme.
Penned by Sean Davies, the introspective song uses poetic lyricism to tell a tale of “some supernatural experiences he had when he was younger…a view on some frightening situations and incidents that may or may not have happened in a very old house in North Wales.” – I guess the title ‘Ghosts’ is pretty apt then.
Spine-chilling but warm with a bold but haunting sound, Hollows new single ‘Ghost’ is not to be missed.
