Himmat Singh – Drip Drip (2024)
Hailing from the Bay Area, California, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Himmat Singh fell in love with music early on training in Indian classical music; however, the rambunctiousness of the California vibes took things to another level of sound. Known for his powerful vocals, confident presence and enthusiastic melodies, Singh pushes the boundaries of English and Punjabi music indulging with genre-diverse styles. Embracing elements of soul, RnB, pop, hip hop, folk and Punjabi, Singh’s tunes are eclectic but retain a heartfelt joviality with warm tenderness. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Drip Drip’.
Following his well-received single ‘Noormahal’, which was the first release since 2022, Himmat Singh takes another step into 2024 with ‘Drip Drip’. Recorded and produced with Andrew Flores, the new single retains the smooth slide of synth-driven pop heard in ‘Noormahal’ but an upbeat sassiness exudes from ‘Drip Drip’. While the melody effortlessly captures a summer vibe without being too distinctive, originality exists with traditional Punjabi inflexions. Bold beats punctuate the tune, a hazy swirl of synths eases the attitude rushing past in a suffocating perfumed fog.
The melody itself is one to have you swaying along but, for me at least, Singh’s vocals bind the track with an infectious sonic haze. Brimming with confidence and lilting with charm, the voice drips with sensuality reminiscent of quick kisses that take your breath away. Interestingly, while bold and self-assured, a hint of vulnerability teeters in the caress bringing an adorable shyness to the coy encounter.
