Henry Taylor – Shoebox of Money (2024)

With over two decades of music behind him, singer-songwriter Henry Taylor is a seasoned artist with a trail of awesome music in his wake. From his folk-rock albums dating back to the late 1990s, Canada-based Taylor should be a household name; however, we only came across him recently. Late to the party, but better late than never, his luxurious vocals, moving melodies and poetic lyrics make Taylor an insatiable artist – so I see why there’s an international following of adoring fans. Along with several critically acclaimed features, his confident performances have seen him playing iconic music venues to sold-out crowds. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Shoebox of Money’.

Following his nine-track album Good To See You in 2022, ‘Shoebox of Money’ is Taylor’s first release in two years. Breathing life into old-school folk-rock, Taylor drags you back to the ’60s and ’70s with the new single. I dare draw a comparison to Fleetwood Mac with the poignant charm of James Taylor in the songwriting. I can imagine sitting around a fire with all those artists swaying along while Henry Taylor keeps the easy vibe going; however, he is an individual with originality giving him a sound that is Henry Taylor and no one else.

From the rich guitars and bold bass to the dynamic drums and luxurious vocals, ‘Shoebox of Money’ is a bright kaleidoscopic sonic tapestry. Each thread is a different instrument all woven together in shimmering beauty; however, it is not just an astounding piece of sonic needlework, it is a feeling of warmth, comfort and joy. The tapestry comes off the wall becoming a cosy blanket, so you find yourself completely relaxed from the first second. For me, Taylor is a new acquaintance but with ‘Shoebox of Money’ I feel I have known him all my life.
