Helen had us confronting emotional damage in ‘Forgive Me’ before taking an upbeat turn in the jovial ‘GO’. Now, she is back with a fresh song that continues her versatile combination of pop and RnB. ‘Sugar Rush’ brings a new side to her music with a serious blast of fun and energy that is sure to get you moving to her groove.
The single started life as a single line posted on Tik Tok after Helen was messing around with some sounds. After a single comment stating that they wanted to hear the rest of the track, Helen knuckled down and wrote this track in about a day. Working with producer Jamie McArdle, they turned her demo into the exciting track we are all listening to.
‘Sugar Rush’ bubbles into your senses with a mixture of RnB vibes and bubblegum pop sensibilities. There is a dreamy feeling to the high levels of the melody that is all pop colours and sugar sweetness. The lower levels bring a slide of RnB smoothness with a slick beat and swaying vibe. It is a perfectly blended sound that reminds you of the perfection of Helen’s fusion sound. Later in the track, the pop twinkles in the top layers of the melody drop for a deep drone beat before sparkling back to the glittering tones.
While the melody is bringing a wonderful blending of sound, Helen vocals top it all with her own brand of fusion. Her voice carries the smoothness of RnB that slinks into your brain before weaving around some pop flows.
