Heckyl – Preacher (2021)

There are a lot of things that we should appreciate in our lives that we overlook in the pursuit of things we don’t really need. Heckyl is here to remind us to live in the moment and appreciate what you have in your life through the catchy pop tones of ‘Preacher’. Through the bouncing sounds of the single, he opens our eyes to what’s important and when to let go of the chase for things we don’t need.

While this is his first track under this moniker, Luke Potter is an experienced producer and this really shines through the melodics. Focusing his music on the inner demons that plague us all, he uses a bright modern pop style to hit you with melodic yet meaningful songs.

‘Preacher’ opens with some popping tones that have a rather bright and upbeat feeling to the single. This turns into a light dance vibe that has your body moving to the beats. It is a delightfully pleasant movement on the verses that burst with light and power on the chorus. The shimmering tones that hover over the beats wrap around you and twirl your senses to the flow of the music. The melody is masterfully created to elegantly dance you through the movements of the vocals while filling you with a light happiness.

Potter’s vocals are personable as he draws you into the lyrics of the track. There is an almost conversational edge to the lyrics as he details some of his own doubts. These are doubts that most people can relate to which makes it much easier to connect with the track. As the melody bursts on the chorus, his vocals rise with them as he reminds us to look at what we have and appreciate it. While listening to the song, you are filled with a sense of living in the moment and not worrying about what you don’t have.

Heckyl reminds us about the importance of living in the present and appreciating what we have in ‘Preacher’. The melody has a wonderful almost joyful bounce to it that bolsters the sentiments of the lyrics. As the lyrics acknowledge the doubts we all have, they encourage us to move ahead and embrace what we have in life.
