Hazlett – Shiver (2024)
Since the release of ‘Bones Shake’ back in April, I’ve been waiting patiently for the next offering from Scandinavian-based folk artist Hazlett. I’m pleased to say that it’s here, in the form of the new song ‘Shiver’.
Delivering a beautiful hazy sound, which sets Hazlett apart from the rest. ‘Shiver’ is a wonderful exploration of the struggle for control in life and viewing every decision as potentially opening up to a multitude of unknown outcomes. I think Hazlett himself sums it up perfectly when he said “Sometimes it is just about choosing a door to open and being irrationally confident that the universe will guide you to where you need to go either way”, as sometimes we are all sometimes frozen in indecision and not realising things can only happen by making that first step.
The track itself is a beautiful, simplistic composed piece of folk. I found myself singing along after just the first listen, Hazlett really does have a knack for creating some of the catchiest songs I’ve heard in a long time. Musically the fingerpicking on this track is a triumph and really shows the skill that Hazlett has proving all you need is a guitar and a message to create a great song.
2024 is looking to be as much of a success as 2023 was for Hazlett, with a European tour in November and December, which I am personally hoping to get to, along with the release of the second part of the Goodby to the Valley Low EP coming in October this year. I was excited to hear that both parts are set to join and form a full album, which will be released on vinyl on October 4th. I for one can’t wait to add it to my record collection ready for nights to draw in, as this music was made for cosy nights in front of the fire.
In addition to the single, Hazlett released a lyric video for ‘Shiver’. You can view the video below or on Hazlett’s YouTube channel. This video uses lighting effects that can cause migraines and/or seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
