Hayley Siano – Get To Know Her (2022)
From her teenage years, singer-songwriter Hayley Siano has been writing and recording songs, and in 2019 she reached the masses with her debut single ‘The Morning’. Featured on various blogs, such as The Music Mermaid, The Stumble Upon and Please Pass The Indie, Siano has been described as having powerhouse vocals making her a “stand-out independent artist to watch…” (Indie Spoonful). The latest addition to her critically acclaimed discography is the single ‘Get To Know Her’.
Inspired by the likes of notable female artists Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Hilary Duff, Vanessa Carlton and Kelly Clarkson, Siano’s music merges laidback pop tones, sassy soul and bold pop-punk. Following her single ‘what you forgot’ (released in 2021), Hayley Siano adopts a soft and soothing tone in ‘Get To Know Her’. While the melodic arrangement of piano and drums is impressive, it is Siano’s vocals that really carry her music. ‘Get To Know Her’ is filled with a masterful vocal execution drawing together breath-taking tones and profound content. What I find intriguing is that her voice has an indescribable power to it, but there is a subtleness woven into the sonic tapestry – a subtleness coming from her divine vocals.
A heartfelt ballad, ‘Get To Know Her’ grabs your attention from the first chord and sends you on a soulful journey with each note. As with artists like Jennifer Hudson or Taylor Swift, Siano’s songs are not only moving melodies but incorporate a profoundness in the lyricism. Siano explains that ‘Get To Know Her’ is “…about rough breakups, particularly the queer experience of melding your life together with another femme person and the specific type of attachment that closeness holds. I wanted to write from the perspective of how hard it is to end something…you know is toxic, and how there is a light on the other side that can help you get through the pain…”
