Harpa – The End (2025)

Similar to a siren, but without the tragic ending to their song, singer-songwriter Harpa effortlessly wins your heart, steals your soul, and sends you on a heady journey through magical melodies. You would think that after several releases, she might lose her touch, but she is only getting started. Described as one of the more promising artists in the music scene, UK-based Harpa is turning heads internationally with critical acclaim, confident performances, and the sweet charm of “that’s so cool, can we press repeat?” The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘The End’.

On the heels of her well-received 2024 singles ‘What The Hell’ and ‘Gone’, Harpa begins the new year with ‘The End’. Leaning strongly toward an indie-rock meets alternative-rock tone in ‘What The Hell’ and ‘Gone’, she left us waiting for another heavy, hard-hitting rock song; however, she continues to astound with her genre-diverse musicality.

Recorded and produced with Mike Pierrepoint, ‘The End’ has the shine of strong alternative rock tones, but as a ballad, we see (or rather hear) a softer, more soothing lilt stepping beyond Harpa’s rough exterior. A swirl of bold drums and soaring guitars present the weightier rock vibe; however, an inclusion of strings and piano up the ante with haunting, heart-breaking, skin-tingling sentimentality. With a comforting but chilling style, Harpa’s vocals call you closer with delicate vulnerability bound in elegant sophistication.

One aspect I find intriguing about ‘The End’ is the duality of it. Heart-breaking and gut-wrenching, fragility oozes from the track; yet, simultaneously, it is a love song celebrating the all-consuming joviality of finding “the one”. Turn it again, and the sense of yearning and desire breathes through poetic lyricism and tone, enhancing the overwhelming bliss and poignancy of completely submitting to this beautiful true love.

Sincere, sentimental and reflective, ‘The End’ is a feast for the ears as it is for the heart. If this is how Harpa begins 2025, I wait with anticipation for more music from this talented artist.
