Guy Simoneau – One Good Life (2024)

With over 40 years in the music industry, I think singer-songwriter Guy Simoneau qualifies for veteran status. Now, “veteran” doesn’t necessarily mean older and more experienced, it includes sophistication, elegance and a true understanding of the connection between emotion, music and oneself. Guy Simoneau embodies that overall mastery of symphonies with his moving melodies. Join me as we delve into his most recent single, ‘One Good Life’.

Earning a reputation for intricate melodies with his acoustic guitar charming audiences of all ages, US-based Simoneau embraces the rawness of vintage folk with a hit of contemporary pop lingering in his music. Joined by producer Adam Halpern, ‘One Good Life’ leans toward old-school country but with an indie-folk inspiration clinging to the sonic wrapper.

For me, the blend of guitars and drums is sensational building a bubble of country-esque happiness; however, Simoneau ups the ante with an echoing reverb of his rich vocals along a shimmer of horns near the end. It is this eclecticism that adds a refreshing newness to a comforting retro groove. Innovative, experimental and obscure, ‘One Good Life’ is not pedestrian despite the initial impression.

Melodically, ‘One Good Life’ can have you grinning from beginning to end, but it is the lyricism and theme that adds profound weightiness to the track. Not profound in a sense of melancholy poignancy, but a depth springing from the joviality and warm conversational narrative. We are told to “live our best lives”, and Simoneau encourages one to cherish the positivity of the present; he “…calls for a return to authenticity and human connection in an era dominated by hustle culture and digital noise… encouraging thank you cards instead of tests to finding joy in good whiskey, high fives, and heartfelt hugs…”

In addition to the single, Guy Simoneau released an official music video for ‘One Good Life’. You can view the video below or on Simoneau’s YouTube channel.
