Greg Bounce – Friends In Towns (2023)

Featured on various review publications and radio stations, musician Greg Bounce is described as “…smooth easy-going indie-pop…” (Less Than 1000 Followers), “a dream-pop artist who can soothe your soul with his songs…” (Sinusoidal Music), and “one of Europe’s electronic music forces…” (Fame Magazine). In an interview with Lost In The Manor, Bounce shared that his musical influence is Noel Gallagher but I’m unsure Oasis had anything as smooth as Greg Bounce’s sound in their repertoire. The latest addition to Bounce’s discography is the single ‘Friends In Town’.

After moving to Portugal’s capital city, Lisbon, Greg Bounce began soaking in the happy vibes and embracing the kaleidoscopic culture of Portugal. In the interview with Lost In The Manor, he shares that Lisbon is “a fantastic place to live…absolutely chock full of friend talent…” – this is the core behind his latest track ‘Friends In Town’. Not that he encountered a plethora of friends in only a few days but the more profound, more poignant concept behind new city-based friendships.

“The song is about moving to the big city and making a million friends, but then realising how fragile and hollow some friendships can be.” – Greg Bounce on ‘Friends In Towns’

While friendships can run deep and remain true, Bounce captures the vulnerability, fragility and emptiness of those fickle, superficial connections in ‘Friends In Town’. Recorded with producer Samuel Jones at Manchester’s Low Four Studios, the new single is bold and brazen, but with a hint of ethereal delicacy.

Following his well-received five-track debut EP, Frango Magic, ‘Friends In Town’ is Greg Bounce’s first release in 2023. Engaging the musical talent of musicians Robin Richards (bass), Andrew Richardson (drums) and Liviu Gheorghe (piano), the song is haunting and otherworldly without being too spine-chilling. The simplistic combination of the instrumentation has a barebones tone which could be based on the prominent piano. Interestingly enough, while Bounce and his crew lay emotions bare in ‘Friends In Towns’, there is a sensation of being embraced in a warm sonic hug. You can almost feel Bounce’s arms around you listening to his steady heartbeat and experiencing the song’s intimacy.
