Great Adamz – Talk To Me (2024)

With an electric, experimental, genre-defying push of innovative creativity, singer-songwriter Great Adamz has carved a niche in the Afrobeat scene. Hailing from the heart of Afrobeat, the Nigerian-born but UK-based musician has a trail of awards to his name, including the Northamptonshire Local Music Awards “Afrobeats Artist of the Year” in 2023 and “Pop Artist of the Year” in 2022. Along with his strong UK following, Great Adamz is well-received on an international scale making waves in Europe, North America, South America and Africa. This is my introduction to Great Adamz, so join me as I delve into his single ‘Talk To Me’.

Following his collaborative single ‘It’s Christmas Time’ with mental health advocate and singer-songwriter Maddox Jones, Adamz stomps into 2024 with the track ‘Talk To Me’. Produced with Skoolbeatz, ‘Talk To Me’ retains the strong Afrobeat vibes with a hit of reggae; however, a slip of commercial pop slices in with smooth synths wistfully lingering beneath the West African vibes. While the instrumentation has you dancing about, it is Great Adamz dulcet vocals that bind the track in a confident though subdued sonic wrapper.

‘Talk To Me’ is one of those songs you can have playing in the background with sultry, sensational infectiousness. More than a fun tune, Great Adamz showcases deeper profoundness in the smile-inducing lyricism. He explains:

“When I wrote ‘Talk To Me’ it was like I was 18 years old again and there was this beautiful woman in front of me, but I didn’t have the courage to speak to her… now that I’m older, if I was ever going to be 18 again, everything that I would say to her is what I put into the lyrics of ‘Talk To Me’. It’s what a young Great Adamz would have said to his biggest crush if he was 18 again.”
