Good Louis – Lost Inside A Mansion (2024)
Previously performing as part of the band Duniven, US-based Patrick Owen is no stranger to the music industry. With Duniven, he played live across the USA and was featured on radio stations; however, it is with his new project that he hits The Other Side Reviews (not literally). After meeting at a recording session for his previous band, Owen’s musical talent was aligned with Jerry Borgé’s instrumental and production skills; hence, we have Good Louis. Since the release of their debut single ‘Turn Around’, which was only earlier this year, the lads are quickly garnering a following across the globe. Today, we take listen to their sophomore single ‘Lost Inside A Mansion’.
One of the tracks from Good Louis’ upcoming LP, Going Down For Air, ‘Lost In A Mansion’ features the skills of Owen (vocals) and Borgé (keyboards), as well as the talents of musicians Jonny Flaugher (drums), Conrad Korsch (bass), Denny Weston Jr (saxophone), and Ron Dziubla (guitar). Similar to ‘Turn Around’, ‘Lost In The Mansion’ breathes life into 80s indie-rock but with stronger jazz inflexions courtesy of Weston Jr’s saxophone.
Recorded and produced by Borgé at Los Angeles’ The Basement studios, ‘Lost In A Mansion’ is a whirlwind of sound. Rushing past bold drums with dynamic guitars, you feel slightly tossed about. The keyboard brings a twinkling bubble of calm amidst the madness, but it is the silky sax adds a cheeky edginess to the melody. All a hazy mist of kaleidoscopic music; however, there is an anchor in the tune – Owen’s vocals. Distinctive in its dull obscurity, the vocals are unlike anything I have heard or probably will hear again. Vulnerable but confident, sure but uncertain, bold but subdued, it’s all there with Owen wrapping the track in silver thread.
The melody is exceptional losing you in an intricate balance of clarity and astounding confusion; pretty much aligning with the complex theme. Owen explains that ‘Lost In A Mansion’ was penned “…in a failed attempt to win the heart of a young woman”. A sonic representation of romance in all its complexity, Good Louis’ ‘Lost In A Mansion’ lingers in your heart like lost love.
In addition to the single, Good Louis released a music video for ‘Lost Inside A Mansion’. You can view the video below or on their YouTube channel.
