Giorgia Fumanti – Over The Rainbow (2023)

From New York’s Time Square to Greece’s Athens Arena and London’s Royal Albert Hall, Italian-Canadian singer Giorgia Fumanti is a major player on the international pop music scene. In addition to playing these iconic venues, Fumanti has performed with the likes of Michael Bolton, Luciano Pavarotti, Lang Lang, Zucchero, Jose Carreras and even met Pope Francis at the Vatican. Counting many of these artists as celebrity fans, Fumanti has been praised by Jose Carreras for her “clear beautiful voice” and Lang Lang as having “one of the most beautiful voices in the world”. Of course, it isn’t just the heavy hitters who are stunned by her singing prowess. With coverage from Conversations About Her, Sinusoidal Music, Tinnitist, Music For All, Radio Click Digital, and various others, Fumani is reaching audiences across the globe.

Known for her renditions of opera arias, movie themes, and contemporary pop, Montreal-based Fumanti has a way of making songs her own. Following her well-received single ‘For Always’, Fumanti has released the album Cinema Collection produced by long-time collaborator Stefano Galante. From Pinocchio’s ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’, Top Gun’s ‘Take My Breath Away’, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s ‘Moon River’, Cinema Collection takes classic singles and turns them on their head releasing something diverse and authentic. Today we take a look at Giorgia Fumanti’s version of Judy Garland’s ‘Over The Rainbow’.

A simple, special and hopeful single, the instant film classic from The Wizard of Oz is Garland’s signature song. The original was a pop hit but as one of the most covered singles several artists bring grunge, hard rock, country and jazz tones to the track. Giorgia Fumanti picks up ‘Over The Rainbow’ transforming it into a skin-tingling classical masterpiece.

While I truly enjoy Judy Garland’s version of ‘Over The Rainbow’, Giorgia Fumanti might overshadow the original. A well-produced cover, Fumanti captures the childish innocence of Garland but adds a mature tenderness with her heartbreaking vocals. Moving from light-hearted and sweet to sophisticated elegance with a soul-stirring radiance, this version of ‘Over The Rainbow’ can easily bring anyone to tears.
