Ginko Bugs – Close In October (2024)

Originally the solo project of singer-songwriter Erik Aredal under the moniker Lieutenant Bo Biloba, Ginko Bugs was (and still is) a sonic eagerness to try “to see the world with new eyes and make songs with a clear message…” Quickly joined by four talented musicians from various European countries, Lt. Bo Biloba (vocals and acoustic guitar), Sargeant Peter (drums), Private Tom (lead guitar), Private Key Winder (keyboard), and Private Barnabass (bass) intertwine classic rock sounds with contemporary rock edginess. Influenced by diverse bands from Pink Floyd and David Bowie to Lou Reed and The Beatles, Ginko Bugs’ sound threads through yesteryear to a modern-day world – proof that good music transcends time, space, distance and generations.

Following the well-received singles ‘AI Song (Made By Me)’ and ‘My Eyelash Girl’, Ginko Bugs release their new single ‘Close In October’. Shifting from a genre-bending blend of classic rock, folk-rock and pop in ‘AI Song (Made By Me), ‘Close In October’ leans toward a gentler, softer, more soothing sonic tapestry. Paul McCartney’s songwriting and composition influences breathe from the track; however, despite a leaning toward The Beatles with hints of Bowie, there is a signature uniqueness clearing the road for a sound entirely Ginko Bugs and no one else.

Produced by Ginko Bugs in Sopron, Hungary, ‘Close In October’ is an immersive experience instead of just a pretty song. Tossing you into a swirl of kaleidoscopic sound, the smooth guitar catches with bold drums and shimmering synths shine across the melody. A nostalgic rock-tinged tune made for audiences from all eras, Ginko Bugs holds that golden thread transcending time; however, the combination of styles is not the only significant ingredient. With ‘Close In October’, Ginko Bugs teeters the line between organic and synthetic sound dabbing a bit of both sides into the moving melody.

Melodically, ‘Close In October’ is enchanting, but it is the lyricism that makes it even more intriguing. Delving into the complexities of human emotion and relationships, Lt. Bo Biloba explains, “…the single explores themes of fear, love, and the passage of time, reflecting on the desire to rekindle lost connections and the uncertainty of the future.”
