Gianfranco GFN – Supernatural (It’s The End) (2023)

Listening to Gianfranco GFN’s music is like taking a stroll through various genres all laid out across a vast sonic field. You might begin in funk, but you’ll end up drifting along jazz, rock, pop and soul with each style clinging to you as you saunter on. Listening to Gianfranco GFN’s music is a heady, kaleidoscopic stroll filled with intriguing genre-diverse sounds sinking into your skin and soul. Come with me as I begin my walk across his sonic landscape.

Following the well-received track ‘Doctor Wind’, ‘Supernatural (It’s The End)’ plunges further into the jazz side of Gianfranco GFN’s vast boundary-breaking array of sound. Combining his guitar with David Caraccio (bass), Nicolas Pittet (drums), Claude-Alain Biedermann (keyboard) and Vladimir Crabone’s vocals, ‘Supernatural (It’s The End)’ is a harmonic amalgamation of naturally talented individuals doing what they do best.

One of the singles off Gianfranco GFN’s upcoming album, ‘Supernatural (It’s The End)’ takes you back to the jazz-funk tones of the 1970s and 1980s. For me, there is a bold exploration of Earth, Wind and Fire in the single, particularly with the groovy keyboard, heavy guitar, powerful bass and dynamic drums. The twirl of sound sends you off on a hazy perfumed melodic journey, however, each instrument contributes something to dazzle your brain but keep your feet on the ground. For me, the melody is a swoosh of enjoyment, but it is the vocals that bring something special. Compared to Earth, Wind and Fire, I hardly expected anything to beat Phil Bailey’s vocal range; the thing is, Crabone hints at a similar falsetto just as the single ends…leaving you wanting more, I suppose.

The song is upbeat, toe-tapping and a grin-inducing earworm but the meaning is more profound. Capturing the loneliness felt after a relationship ends, tremors of melancholy pierce a vulnerable bubble; however, while there is fragile vulnerability, Gianfranco GFN encourages listeners to move beyond the sadness and continue without regret.
