Gentry Blue – Lose No Sleep (2024)

Breathing life into the nostalgic sounds of classic rock and alternative rock, Gentry Blue carry a silvery thread from the time of Rush and Led Zeppelin to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters. Running along baroque chamber pop like Florence + The Machine with a hint of Jeff Buckley, the US-based threesome transcends decades and generations with raw, fantastic, insatiable, undeniable music.

Initially formed in 2018 using the name Gentry, the group has captivated audiences with moving melodies and confident performances; however, it is the constant evolution that keeps this band fresh but with heartwarming familiarity in retro tones. In 2020, Gentry Blue carved a niche for themselves with the EP, Pyrite and Steel, encapsulating resilience in a difficult reality. Skip ahead to 2023, the group found a spot in the world of progressive and space rock; however, it is the 2024 tracks we concern ourselves with. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Lose No Sleep’.

Following the well-received song, ‘Think I Might Be Crazy’, Gentry Blue once again tip their hats to 1970s classic rock, yet softer tinges of Stevie Nicks flutter through the Rush-esque melody. Recorded and produced by Sean Jannay with mastering by Colby Gustafson, ‘Lose No Sleep’ elegantly blends multi-instrumentalists Brendan Gentry-DeBonis and Sean Jannay’s crashing drums, searing guitars and bold bass in a haunting symphony.

While ‘Lose No Sleep’ is filled with grit, ferocity and a grimy slap in the face, Lydia Gentry-DeBonis’ vocals slice in as a bittersweet stab of vulnerability with matter-of-fact acceptance of her fate. The melody is one to steal your heart, but it is the theme and lyricism that encapsulates the poignancy of its profound nature. Gentry Blue explain:

“…’Lose No Sleep’…is the latest in our series of songs about feral women who have committed atrocities; this song is about a woman facing a prison sentence.”
