Gavan Waldby – Thanks For That (2022)

With a plethora of musical adventures under his arm and a song stirring in his soul, singer-songwriter Gavan Waldby brings a unique slant to the indie-folk music scene. From comedian to Big Band guitar player, there is little that this one-man band cannot do. Featured on notable blogs like Sinusoidal Music, Send Me Your Ears, Less Than 1000 Followers, TJPL News and various playlists/online radio stations, Waldby is reaching listeners on a global scale. The latest addition to his well-received discography is ‘Thanks For That’.

Described by Sinusoidal Music as “personal and heartfelt”, ‘Thanks For That’ is a tender tribute to all the women who have cared for him in his life. Waldby explains that the track is “…my way of saying thank you to the women in my life that look after me and have my back – my wife, my daughter, my big sis, and my dear late mum…” A beautifully soothing, flowing and laidback melody meld elegantly with his passionate appreciation for those special females in his life.

“The inspiration for ‘Thanks For That’ came from a bad experience that happened last year. I was very upset. My wife, my daughter, and my big sis all stepped up to help me. They were wonderful. It was a very touching moment for me, so I started to write a song to thank them all…” – Gavan Waldby on ‘Thanks For That’

From the engaging acoustic guitar opening to the interspersed organ, strings and woodwinds, ‘Thanks For That’ has a delicate sound in its eclectic, kaleidoscopic soundscape. What I really enjoy is the quirkiness of the arrangement with acoustic guitars melding with the strings, percussion and Waldby’s obscure vocals weaving a beautiful sonic tapestry. Delicate strings and warm “la la la’s” blend together making ‘Thanks For That’ simultaneously raw but also elegant.
