Proficient musicians coming together to create masterful melodies is what to expect from Gary Dranow and the Manic Emotions. Unrestricted by genres and refusing to be defined by societal norms, this blues-rock band is something utterly inimitable. Having gigged extensively across the US, the group has garnered a national following; however, Dranow and his crew are also reaching ears across the pond with coverage from international publications. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Something About You’.
In an interview with Illustrate Magazine, Dranow notes his influences as Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and The Three Kings – all evident in the band’s spellbinding slant on old-school rock and roll. In ‘Something About You’, there are strong retro-rock vibes oozing forth from the melody. Yet, despite the power of the blues-inspired guitars and drums, it is Dranow’s bold vocals that always capture my ear. A grittiness exists in the rich vocals, but at the same time, he seems to embrace you in a comforting hug with his dulcet tones.
Just as the melody holds its own, the lyricism cuts to the quick with its heartfelt profoundness. In the same interview with Illustrate Magazine, Dranow explains that he wants to influence his listener – “I write to affect the listener. I think my songs are stories filled with life lessons that I feel qualified to tell”. In ‘Something About You’, Dranow and the Manic Emotions touch on the poignant topic of love. He further explains that ‘Something About You’ is “a true love song about a man who was empty inside like so many others until he met his one and only…he was bathed in her love for the rest of his life.”
