Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions – Human 1.0 (2024)

Already a firm favourite among The Other Side Reviews’ team, Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions astound us time and time again with their intriguing music. Not one to be pigeonholed, the group has drifted from alternative rock in ‘Never Give Up’ to blues in ‘Day I Was Born’, melodic metal in ‘Self Sacrifice’ and classic rock in ‘Twisted Minds’; so, it makes complete sense that we are hardly able to guess what will happen next when it comes to Dranow and his crew. Hailing from Ukraine to Australia and the USA, this band is a testament to ingenuity, passion and perseverance of the human soul adding something special to life as we know it.

Following the well-received single ‘Floating Away’, Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions shift from an Americana style to a heavier hard rock tone in ‘Human 1.0’. Similar to the track ‘Back To The Earth’, ‘Human 1.0’ is a forceful thrust of crashing drums, scorching guitars and pounding bass hitting you between the eyes. While the group have offered singles with harder kicks, ‘Human 1.0’ leaves you gasping for breath in its kaleidoscopic push-and-pull.

A fan of bands like Seether and Three Doors Down, I thoroughly enjoy Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions’ hard rock singles. In ‘Human 1.0’, the powerful instrumentation rolls along in its vintage rock glory meeting rich, warm vocals to carry you along the music. Interestingly, a switch from warm embraces to screaming metal adds an edge to the single – a kick in the guts if you will…. but a good kick in the guts.

As with many of this group’s songs, the genre perfectly reflects the single’s theme and concept. ‘Human 1.0’ is a raw, vulnerable but aggressive shout demanding attention to the state of our plant. Dranow explains:

“Through ‘Human 1.0’ we wanted to convey the raw emotions of a planet in turmoil. It’s a song about the urgent need for environmental action and the consequences of neglecting our responsibility to protect our planet.”
